Dr Balan Louis Gaspar, the Director of NextGenPath Diagnostics is the first in the country to super specialize in the field of Histopathology (DM Histopathology) from the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. Of note, he had established the neuromuscular lab in the Department of Histopathology at PGIMER, Chandigarh during his three-year DM training. During this period he underwent extensive training in the field of advanced Histopathology that include multidisciplinary team meeting (MDT), immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, conventional PCR and advanced molecular techniques such as fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), Sanger sequencing and next-generation sequencing (NGS). He was awarded the prestigious "Prof. Subhash Kumari Gupta Memorial Gold Medal" in his postgraduation (MD Pathology), in PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. He is one among the few in the country to have extensive training and expertise in interpreting muscle and nerve biopsies, brain biopsy, renal biopsy, gastrointestinal and liver biopsies, lymph node biopsy, lung biopsy, endomyocardial biopsy, skin biopsies, intraocular biopsies, and biopsies of rare non-neoplastic conditions and tumors of various anatomical sites. He has more than 30 scientific papers in peer-reviewed indexed national and international journals to his credit. His recent textbook "Myopathology - A Practical Clinico-pathological Approach to Skeletal Muscle Biopsies" Springer Publications, 2019 is an internationally acclaimed work which serves as a reference material in the subject. Dr. Balan has been an invited guest faculty in various national and international conferences. He is also a member of several scientific societies and has peer-reviewed in reputed international journals.
