Muscle Pathology

  • NextGenPath Diagnostics on an average caters more than 100 muscle biopsies a year.
  • Muscle pathology is a sub-speciality of neuropathology that deals with diseases of skeletal muscle.
  • We are the only standalone diagnostic center that has an expert myopathologist who can interpret snap frozen muscle biopsy along with a panel of special stains, enzyme stains, immunohistochemistry with or without ultrastructural and molecular studies.
  • Method of sending the biopsy to our lab: a single fresh (unfixed) open biopsy (2x2cm) from a moderately affected muscle (MRC grade not less than 3/5) wrapped in slightly saline moistened gauge piece/clingfilm in a closed ice-pack container as quickly as possible.
  • Samples are received 24x7 on all days.
  • Request form for muscle biopsies – Click HERE to download.
  • Formalin fixed muscle biopsies are neither accepted nor processed in our lab.
  • Learning is a continuous process and we believe that teaching and publishing relevant research are the greatest contributions to the society apart from our patient care services.
  • NextGenPath Archives serves as an excellent freely available online resource for case-based learning of muscle pathology.
