Nerve Pathology

  • NextGenPath Diagnostics on an average handles more than 100 nerve biopsies a year.
  • Nerve pathology is a sub-speciality of neuropathology that deals with diseases of peripheral nervous system.
  • We are the only standalone diagnostic center that has an expert in interpreting nerve biopsy and skin biopsy (small fiber neuropathy) along with a panel of special stains, immunohistochemistry with or without ultrastructural and molecular studies.
  • Method of sending the peripheral nerve biopsy to our lab: two segments of peripheral nerve/fascicle: 2cm length of segment in 10% neutral buffered formalin and 1cm length of segment in 2.5% buffered glutaraldehyde.
  • Method of sending the skin biopsy to our lab: two 3-4mm punch biopsies of skin: One in 10% neutral buffered formalin and the other in Michel's transport medium.
  • The nerve biopsy kit containing the fixatives will be provided from our lab.
  • Samples are received 24x7 on all days.

  • Learning is a continuous process and we believe that teaching and publishing relevant research are the greatest contributions to the society apart from our patient care services.
  • NextGenPath Archives serves as an excellent freely available online resource for case-based learning of nerve pathology.
